Homemade Pizza Crust

  • 1⅓ cups warm water
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar

First take the active dry yeast and put in a bowl.  Mix with the warm water.  Let sit for about 5 minutes.  You will see the yeast start to activate and bubble some.

Next, mix the flour, olive oil, salt and sugar in the yeast mixture.  You will want to start with about two cups of flour, get that mixed up completely and then start adding a little more flour each time making sure to mix well.   I always knead the dough some after getting it mixed.  You can do that in the same bowl.  Just make sure not to knead a lot though, it will cause the dough to get hard.

Once you have the dough mixed, if it is too sticky just add a little more flour to it. Then add about a tablespoon of oil over the dough and make sure the dough is covered with the oil

Let the dough sit out in the bowl covered with a towel for about an hour.  You will see the dough double in size and rise.

Then you are ready to spread out on your Mrs. V's Silicone pizza mat.  Top with your favorite toppings.  I use Ragu pizza sauce then top with my favorite toppings and cheese.

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes until done.
